Learn How to get an Education Grant From the Government

  1. This is how you can apply for grants

You can apply for federal grants through FAFSA. FAFSA is the first requirement for all types of grants. When you have gathered all relevant information, you can fill the FAFSA. Fill it online through the mobile app or complete a hard copy of the application form at your convenience. It is not necessary to complete FAFSA in one go.

  • First of all, you have to create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID), username, and password of ID. This is necessary to apply electronically because FSA ID will be considered as an electronic signature and you can log in to app-specific for FAFSA. Make sure to register before starting filling the application because it takes 1-2 days to set up.
  • If you are dependent on your parents, one of your parents must include their required information in the application. For this, they have to create their FSA ID.
  • If you are not dependent on your parents and meet any of the following criteria then only your personal and financial information is required.
  • If you have dependents on you either they are your children or other family members who receive half or more than half of your expenses, you are an independent student.
  • If you are a veteran, married, separated, emancipated minor, graduate student, or older than 24 years of age, you will be considered an independent student.
  • Now enter personal information in the application form. You can complete FAFSA in more than one sitting.
  • FAFSA will require information on the highest level of education your parents completed and the number of people in your or your parents’ household. You will be eligible for more financial aid if your sibling is attending college at the same time as yours.
  • Enter the name of the schools in a list to which you are planning to apply. All of the listed schools will get your information through FAFSA. Find school codes on the school code search section of the FAFSA website and add these to the form.
  • Enter the date, sign the application, and submit it.
  • Check your application status anytime. You will receive a mail in 3-21 days after submitting FAFSA that guides you on how to access your Student Aid Report (SAR). SAR describes your eligibility for financial aid.
