Learn 9 Ways for Veterans to Qualify for Dental Benefits

•  If the beneficiary is 65 or older and was entitled to Medicare Part A coverage before June 5, 2001, then the beneficiary is eligible for CHAMPVA without having Medicare Part B coverage.

•  To be eligible for CHAMPVA, a Medicare Part A and B recipient who turned 65 before June 5, 2001, must continue to receive both Parts A and B.

• To qualify for CHAMPVA, a person must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B if they turned 65 on or after June 5, 2001.

We advise that you enroll in an optional insurance plan such as VADIP if you need more comprehensive dental protection.

Veterans Administration Dental Health Insurance (VADIP)

Even if you don’t meet the requirements for VA dental care, you and your loved ones may be eligible for low-cost private coverage via the VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP). Dental care is typically not covered by medical insurance, however, VADIP plans cover it.

To be eligible for CHAMPVA, either you or your spouse/widow/child must be enrolled in VA health care. To qualify for VA health care, you must have served for at least 24 consecutive months, or the whole time you were called to active duty (if you enlisted after September 7, 1980, or entered active duty after October 16, 1981).

VADIP Application Process

Delta Dental and MetLife are two of the dental insurance providers the VA Dental Insurance Program offers at a reduced rate for veterans. Insurance premiums and copayments are still necessary, but they’ll be cheaper than they would be with most dental policies.

The VADIP website has further information about signing up for the VA Dental Insurance Program. The VA recognizes the significance of dental care to a person’s overall well-being.

For those who are qualified, they provide a range of dental care coverage alternatives. Get the essential dental care to protect your long-term health, whether through VA dental care benefits or VADIP-discounted commercial insurance plans.
