What to Know About Sales Jobs Before Taking One

I know what you’re thinking right now: ‘Being paid on commission is too risky.’ That kind of risk is not acceptable to me.’ But, on the other hand, there are plenty of solid sales opportunities with starting salaries ranging from $50,000 to $60,000.

That’s hardly untrustworthy; in fact, it’s more than many people are paid in total. If you locate the right firm and industry, you might earn hundreds of thousands of dollars in commissions. What business? Take a look at the following two sections.

Other Advantages of Sales Jobs You Should Be Aware Of:

  • A high salary isn’t the only advantage of working in sales…
  • Many inside salespeople work remotely or have the ability to work from home. So you only need a phone and a computer!
  • In addition, you’re pretty important to the company, so you’re far less likely to get laid off during a downturn.
  • Because sales are a transferable and useful skill, you can switch industries or businesses; however, you will need to establish a new network.
  • Working in sales will help you grow as a person. You’ll have to push yourself out of your comfort zone, and you’ll experience huge personal growth as a result… far more than in other jobs/industries. But, of course, this is also true of being a recruiter, something I have firsthand knowledge of.

The Drawbacks of Working in Sales

I’ve already started some of the advantages of working in sales, and I’ll go over some more in a moment. But this wouldn’t be a good post about what you should know about sales employment if it didn’t also cover the disadvantages.

So, let us now discuss some of the disadvantages of the sales profession. Here’s what you should know about bad sales…

For starters, it’s quite stressful.

There are objectives and quotas to meet, and you are constantly chasing them.

Failure to accomplish your goals consistently may even cost you your job. Sales are a few jobs where you can be fired for not being particularly good at it. In most other jobs, you have to make many mistakes to get fired, but not in sales. If you don’t close deals in sales, you’re costing the organization money and maybe fired.

Don’t worry; this won’t happen immediately away. A reputable employer will provide you with excellent training and be exceedingly patient as you learn the fundamentals of your role.

However, if it has been six months and you are still not completing any deals, they may discuss how sales may not be the best fit for you.

Sales jobs are likewise in high demand. Sales teams are typically made up of alpha males (and females) and those who enjoy competing. It’s fairly uncommon for many sales teams to be made up of persons who participated in high school or college sports.

Now, I indicated that you might be quiet and introverted while succeeding in sales, and that is completely true. However, you must live in a team if the majority of the members are not like you. That is crucial. You won’t be surrounded by other introverts in sales, even though you can be a big success as one!

These are the key disadvantages or disadvantages of sales occupations that you should be aware of. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic job.
