Learn How Consumers Choose Lawyers Online

Question 9: Which review sites are important to you?

Participants in the study were asked what review sites would be important to them when deciding whether or not to hire a law firm. They could select more than one, with options including Yelp, Avvo, Facebook, and Google. 936 of the 1,040 participants stated Google reviews are important to them. Nearly 69 percent said Yelp, 35 percent said Facebook and only 13 percent said Avvo reviews are important (most people don’t even know what Avvo is. Therefore, that number is so low about the others).

Question 10: What is the typical review score/stars a law firm would require (on Yelp, Google, and so on) before you hire them?

A stunning 89 percent of customers say your company must have four-star ratings or higher for them to choose you. Are you still one of those businesses that believe reviews aren’t important? Yet, reviews are more important to consumers in 2020 than they have ever been. Consumers require third-party validation that your organization provides a fantastic experience to former clients, no matter how spectacular your past results are or how impressive the testimonials on your site are. Yes, fake reviews are a major issue in the legal industry (a topic for another blog post), but the main point is to gain fantastic reviews for your law firm this year if you haven’t previously. This begins with creating an exceptional experience that compels your clients to leave you outstanding reviews. And, of course, make sure you ask your clients to leave you a Google review. While Yelp’s terms of service prohibit you from soliciting reviews, Google does not.
