Learn Why Apple TV Plus is Worth it

In May 2020, we asked our Android Authority readers which streaming service they would use if they could only choose one, and Apple TV Plus received less than 1% of the vote. Most consumers complained that the library was too tiny, while it would work better as a secondary or third subscription for people who can’t get enough content.

Of course, there are other ways to measure interest in the service. One example is Google Trends, which monitors search volume for specific phrases. Apple TV Plus’s popularity skyrocketed when it was initially announced and again when the service was released. Unfortunately, since then, it has done nothing but stagnate, even in the midst of a global pandemic when everyone is at home streaming.

Compared to another service that debuted about the same time — Disney Plus — Apple TV Plus is a tiny blip on the radar. It has failed to capture public attention, either due to a lack of engaging content on the platform or a lack of a significant marketing push by Apple.

Statista researchers predict that the service could have 40 million customers by the end of 2020, which is our best indication of user numbers. However, due to Apple’s free one-year subscription offer with Apple goods, this figure may not necessarily represent paying subscribers. The figure also falls significantly short of that of rival Disney Plus, which launched simultaneously. Disney claims that 16 months after the service’s introduction, it had over 100 million subscribers.

The good news is that, unlike when it was first released, Apple TV Plus is now available on Android devices (via the Chrome and Firefox browsers), smart TVs, game consoles, and popular streaming devices such as the Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Where is Apple TV Plus available?

Apple TV Plus is available in 107 countries worldwide. However, it is not available in every nation that supports the Apple TV app and excludes certain populous countries such as South Korea, Romania, Turkey, and others.

On the other hand, Apple has vowed that every Apple Original will be subtitled or dubbed (or both) in over 40 languages. In addition, closed subtitles will also be available on all titles for deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers.

How much does Apple TV Plus cost?

In the United States, Apple TV Plus costs $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. An annual subscription is also available for $49.99. This cost unlocks all Apple Originals, but additional Apple TV Channel subscriptions must be purchased separately.

It’s worth mentioning that the subscription has a single charge, and Apple TV streaming includes up to six family members, 4K quality, and media downloads. There are no more expensive plans with additional features; everything is included in the basic package.
