Learn How to Crush Your Secret Santa

Part2

Choosing the Best Present

Maintain appropriateness. Gag gifts can be amusing at times, but in general, choose gifts that will not be seen as improper in a group context.

Stay away from alcohol. Unless your secret Santa is taking place at a wine tasting party, you should not expect that your present recipient would appreciate a bottle of booze as much as you or someone else. Giving alcohol, especially at business gatherings, may result in an unpleasant discussion if your recipient does not enjoy drinking or is newly sober. If your recipient enjoys alcohol, choose a related present rather than alcohol itself (like wine charms or a beer koozie).

Purchase something useful. If you’re not sure what to present your special someone, go with something practical and useful. That way, even if it isn’t exactly what they were looking for, they’ll still have a use for it. For example, consider seasonal decorations, cooking basics, or a nice book in a genre they enjoy.

Get a certain item. If possible, conduct some research on your gift recipient to select a truly personalized gift for them. Ask around, look at their work or social media profiles, or interrogate them quietly. They will appreciate the time and effort you put into selecting a unique and personalized present for them.

Consider donating. If you’re the artistic kind, a well-executed homemade present will appear personal and heartfelt. When preparing a gift for someone, consider their hobbies rather than just putting together a bunch of garbage and appearing cheap. There is a significant difference between creating something creative and meaningful and creating something cheap and lazy because you forgot to/didn’t buy something.
