Learn What to Expect from Rehab Programs

Many programs incorporate family and friends throughout the rehabilitation process, from the initial assessment to ongoing follow-up aftercare. Others require family members to attend Al-Anon meetings if they wish to see you in treatment.

Aftercare Planning

You and your counselor will have developed a continuing care (aftercare) plan based on where you are in your recovery path by the end of treatment. Aftercare has been demonstrated to reduce drug and alcohol relapse rates drastically. As a result, it is a critical component of your treatment.

Your plan will include a variety of social and medical support services to assist you with your transition. Transitional housing (such as a sober living home), follow-up therapy and counseling, medical evaluations, alumni support groups, and other ideas to assist you to avoid situations and triggers that may lead you to relapse may be included.

A Word From Verywell

If you have a substance use disorder, you must seek treatment. Although it may appear frightening at first, it is critical to recognize that rehab is ultimately a beneficial experience. Don’t let your anxieties about what will happen in therapy keep you from doing something extraordinary for yourself and your life.
