Learn if Being a Delivery Driver is Worth It

There is no guarantee of a regular hourly income.

While I keep my tips and my guaranteed delivery payout for every order, it is not certain that I will continue to receive delivery opportunities in the future. As a result, I wouldn’t rely on this as a source of hourly revenue. I think of it as “fun money” and a task to keep me busy while I’d rather be at home watching Netflix. It’s not something I’d rely on to make ends meet, and you shouldn’t either until you’re 100% committed to it. Any organization that guarantees you a specific hourly rate is most likely hiding a contingency clause in the fine print, so don’t be duped.

It is less difficult to move food than it is to carry people.

You may be asking why I skipped over rideshare apps and went straight to delivering meals. It was a straightforward option for me. I know that when my friends and I use rideshare services, it’s generally after we’ve had a few drinks. I didn’t want the added liability, stress, or danger of having strangers (especially those who may be under the influence of anything) in my vehicle. I could have been overthinking this one, but as a woman in my mid-20s, I didn’t want to put myself in a situation I didn’t want to be in simply for some additional cash. Food is easier to move than people, and you may be able to earn more money driving for a ridesharing app. That might be a good option for some people, but it wasn’t one I wanted to take.

They are unconcerned about your acceptance rate.

Unlike rideshare applications like Uber, where drivers can be fined for declining a ride, the service I used doesn’t mind if you decline a delivery. Food is not sitting outside a bar in the rain, trying to get home after a hard night, as individuals who use ridesharing applications do. There is also no benefit to having a high acceptance rate, so choosing a delivery with a low minimum payout or one that is far away from you is pointless. Maintaining a high acceptance rate on most meal delivery apps is pointless, and this was one of the first tactics I learned.

With so many food delivery applications available and so many incentives to becoming a driver, it appears to be a very promising side job. But, before you quit your day job, think about these top tips and methods and how you might be able to make food delivery work best for you.
