Learn How the Federal Solar Tax Credit Works

Will the Federal Solar Tax Credit expire?

The Federal Solar Tax Credit will expire at the end of 2023. It is expected that government will extend the tax credit again. The Biden administration plans to include a 10-year extension of tax credits in future legislation. There is no guarantee that Congress will approve this, and it may be at a lower rate.

For this reason, we recommend that you try adding solar panels as soon as possible to ensure that you get 26% credit.

Which solar systems are eligible for the Federal Solar Tax Credit?

The brand of solar panels does not affect your ability to apply for a solar tax credit, nor does it affect anything else, such as the type of inverter you use.

But Includes the following costs:

  • Photovoltaic solar panels or solar cells (not the fan itself) power the attic fan.
  • Contractor labor costs for on-site preparation, assembly, or original installation, including approval costs, inspection costs, and developer costs
  • System balancing devices such as wiring, inverters, mounting devices, etc.
  • Solar batteries are also entitled to the federal solar tax credit.

Can I apply for a federal solar tax credit?

You may be eligible for this tax credit if you meet all of the following requirements:

  • Your solar PV system installation was done between January 1, 2006, till December 31, 2023.
  • The solar PV systems are used in off-site community solar projects if installed in a primary or secondary home in the United States or if the generated electricity is certified and does not exceed the home’s electricity consumption. Taxpayers are applying for a Section 25D tax credit to purchase part of a solar community project.
  • You are the owner of a solar PV system (that is, you bought it for cash or financing, but you are leasing or contracting to buy the power generated by a system you do not own).
  • The solar PV system is new or new to use. You can only request the credits on the “original installation” of the PV system.

Impact of Solar ITC

The ITC is one of the most imperative federal policies for boosting US clean energy. The spread of photovoltaic power generation on both distributed and practical scales is expanding rapidly nationwide. Moreover, the long-term steadiness of this federal policy has endorsed businesses to continue to reduce costs. The ITC is a huge success story of this policy, leading to a more robust and cleaner economy.
